Music is an important part of Children's development because it helps children to express themselves, bond with other children, develop listening skills for different sounds and help identify different musical instruments in a fun way.
In a nursery situation or a parent and child situation, we think it is important to familiarise your child / children with their new instruments, talk to the child / children about the instrument, what it does and what sound it makes.
If you have purchased a range of "Kids Play" musical instruments you can practice "Word recognition" with your child / children, quite simply make some name cards up with the instrument name on, place the instruments out and ask the child / children to place the name cards next to the right instrument. This helps children recognise the instrument and learn the name of the instrument.
You can also help your child / children to get to know "Sounds", this is easily done with a range of the "Kids Play" instruments. Ask your child / children to cover their eyes whilst you choose an instrument to play, let them try and guess the sound and link it to the correct instrument. This is helping your child / children to recognise sounds.
Now the child / children are comfortable with the instruments each child / children can have an instrument each and play along to a piece of music. This helps develop rhythm and understand beats, this also in turn enables the child / children to express themselves and bond with other children. In a nursery situation you can even divide the children into different sections "Bells" section "Shakers" section "Drums" section "Xylophone" section, play a piece of music and get the children to play their instruments at different times, ie bell section, followed by xylophone section etc..
Most important thing is to have fun!
